Illustrated Dictionaries

This page contains links to student illustrated dictionaries. The student selected terms are the important events, peoples, and ideas of the given time period or region. Each dictionary defines 35 - 40 terms and includes 7 to 10 original illustrations. These dictionaries are helpful for reviewing the significant vocabulary of the indicated chronological and regional boundaries.

By Chronology: By Region:

Students: The terms are worth 17 points and the graphics 7 points. Terms need to be pertinent and accurately defined. Do not simply copy and paste from Encarta or some online site like "reference.allrefer.com" (see Plagiarism). You need to compile your own definition after personal study of the term. Some definitions may easily reveal your Biblical worldview. Here are some regional terms to consider. Please alphabetize your definitions before submission.

Unless the word defined needs color to get the point across, use bold, contrasting, black and white graphics (scan in and save as b&w only). Save graphics as separate .gif or .jpg files and attach to an email. Each graphic file size should be as small as possible to reasonably illustrate the term (usually under 10 kb). [Example of non-acceptable (320kb) and acceptable (16kb) graphic.] Clarity and artistic quality counts! Any text on the graphic must be particularly distinct and large in order to retain legibility as it is reduced for publication. Computer generated graphics could include data shown in graphs and tables. Original animated gifs and flash movies are also acceptable. Public domain clip art and photos are acceptable but will not earn points.
