Chorus:
The battle belonged to the LORD (1 Sam.17:47)
By His grace and severe mercy (His intervening providence)
We succeeded there with our flaming sword (An analogy to the Sword of the word)

Verse One:
During the night of June 16, 1775 Americans began to fortify Bunker Hill in order to protect Boston Harbor from control by the British. However, Colonel Prescott and about 500 men fortified Breed's Hill which was closer to the mouth of the Harbor. Peter Brown, an American soldier, wrote a letter to his mother which has come down as one of the best documents of the battle. With no more than ten rounds each, the inaccurate muskets of the American defenders needed to fire at less than 20 yards against the rifles of the British. Although the Americans fled when they ran out of ammunition, they counted it a victory against an overwhelming force of over 2000 men. Peter Brown wrote, "Oh, may I never forget God's distinguishing mercy to me in sparing my life. If we should ever be called to action, I hope to have courage and the strength to act my part."

Verse Two:
Lafayette was a French volunteer during the American Revolution who helped Washington defeat the British. In WWII, Americans returned the favor by driving the Germans out of France.

Verse Three:
The USA led forces fought its way up the Korean pennisulla all the way to the border with China, at which time McArther was relieved of duty due to his aggresive stance in spite of Truman's commands.

Verse Four:
