This is also known as the "try before you buy" option. Think of it as "shareware". You may use me for 30 days without obligation, and then send in payment to continue. (More on payment at the bottom of this page.)
Those first 30 days will provide an opportunity to submit a couple essays for my evaluation and feedback. For the full course, I suggest reading my NorthStar Academy syllabus for AP World History as your guide, as it is designed for students to work at their own pace.
As we work through the course material, we will adjust our expectations and assignments. You may choose to do dramatically more or less of the assignments depending on your needs and desires. Perhaps you are looking for tips for taking the APWH exam or simply a writing tutor to help understand the the essay scoring guides. This can be arranged as it is the essence of having an individualized tutor. My instructions (and due dates) are merely suggestions to maximize the likelihood of student success on the AP exam.
I view parents as the ones responsible for their child's education, and myself as a resource in the parent's employ. However, it will be the students own initiative that will lead them toward success on the AP exam. Strong parental guidance is often needed to hold students accountable as they progress toward their goal. I encourage students to forward any of our communication to their parents. In fact, if the parent thinks it would be more prudent, all communication between the student and me can go directly through the parents email address. As a teacher I have found it to be good policy that parents are informed of what their student is doing in my "class".
Realize that in most high schools, students preparing for the AP exam meet for 40 minutes each weekday and have nightly homework. Many students have also completed a summer reading list before September classes begin. The College Board AP Exam is in May. Although students may begin my course at any time, it is prudent to start as early as possible.
Participants need to be aware that the material submitted to me, is considered for anonymous publication on the site. My vision is to provide a free resource to anyone wanting to learn history in Biblical perspective. The hyperhistory.net web site receives hundreds of visitors everyday from around the world. Only God knows how the information on this site may be used to plant a seed of salvation or encourage a Christian brother in a distant land.
Students I work with become part of the ministry to share World History in Biblical Perspective. For example, I had a student in Budapest, Hungary draft the "Intro to Europe" article. A student in New York helped write the "Intro to the Americas". Students learn history through research, drafting, editing with me, and sometimes, the product is added to the hyperhistory.net website. Keep in mind that this site is dynamic rather than static. Internet links come and go, and site articles are regularly enhanced. Some submissions completely replace others on site.
What I mainly do as a tutor is to point students to web sources for research, tie Biblical themes to historical trends, and help revise students essay drafts to meet college board standards. Although this option is ungraded, you may test yourself over the articles you select to read. Linked from the weekly articles are multiple choice questions that are automatically scored for immediate feedback to students. (The AP exam contains 70 multiple choice questions and 3 essay questions.)
If parents have entrusted their teenager's education to a school, then I would need that school to hold the student accountable to meet the demands of the syllabus, particularly if the student will be receiving high school credit. In such case, I can only recommend to the school's administration a transcript grade based upon the student's performance in completing my World History course. The school is under no obligation to grant credit unless an arrangement had been agreed to prior to this coursework.
The $100 per semester payment can be broken down to $25 per month. After our 30 day trial period (assuming we choose to continue together), you will send me $50 by PayPal, or by personal or cashier's check. (PayPal is a simple and trustworthy method to pay me using a charge card such as Visa.) The $50 covers the first 30 day trial period and the second 30 days yet to be delivered. At the start of the 3rd month, another $25 is due and so on. Of course, you can save your money and take the course for free.
There is no "money back" guarantee on passing the Advanced Placement World History Exam. This is a challenging college level exam that only about 60% of last year's attempts (world wide) were successful.
Please send me any comments and questions you may have. Thank you for your interest in this course.
Sincerely,
Mr. N.
