This website on CD ROM

In order to minimize costs and time of accessing this site through the Internet, much of the web site is available on CD ROM. Unfortunately, the CD can not offer server dependent applications, and external links to the readings and quizzes go out of date. The CD has over 600 pages of hyperlinked text and graphics, as well as a few audio files. Please follow the link at the bottom of most pages to e-mail for more information. The cost is only $5 plus shipping (payable through PayPal). Be warned that recently a family in Pakistan requested the CD (only 100 grams) but the least expensive shipping via DHL was $75 from Oregon, USA. Sending the material in printed form would have been the same price!

This CD offer is in response to families such as this one who would like to continue with NorthStar Academy when they return to Papua New Guinea.

"I am writing with the desire to "green light" about what possibilities exist for us to continue using NSA next year when we return to Papua New Guinea. Our son* has loved being on NSA this year and last. It's been a great "fit" for him. He has been blessed so much from the interaction of students and staff alike. Each of his teachers have been the epitome of graciousness and helpfulness. They also have been FUN in their interaction with the students, which has gained our son's admiration. It's been a real rich experience, too, for him to have students around the world as pen pals. We've seen a definite maturing process in our son's life this last year, and I think NSA has been a part of that. We will (and have) be able to always recommend NSA as a wonderful option for homeschooling families...the best of both worlds I think...having them at home and not having to do ALL the work! :)

Our situation in PNG is this: we live in a very remote location. At this time, phone access is unavailable. We are generally in the village 2-3 months at a time before going into town (where there are phones, etc.) for a few weeks. We do, however, have daily short wave radio contact with our town teams. One scenario is this: If we could find someone willing, we would have someone in town be our "liaison". We could download two-three weeks of work and go to the village. Our liaison in town could check the mail weekly (or possibly more frequently) and update us on things via the shortwave radio. Then, as we had planes (every few weeks, usually), they could download and send to us on a disk the next couple week's worth of assignments. As our son had questions, we could also field these to our liaison and they in turn could ask the teacher. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else in our type of location has done something like this, and if not, is it a possibility?"
