Nuclear and Atomic bombs are filled with two chemicals. These two components in the bomb go through a chemical reaction called fission, which makes the bomb explode. During World War II atomic bombs were used for the first time to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. The bombs in both attacks managed to create 199,000 casualties and 105,000 of those casualties died. The people mostly died from burning, but some where killed by falling debris. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have been the only nuclear attacks in history. The nuclear bomb is considered a weapon of mass destruction, but it is not used much because it costs lots of money and time to create such a precise weapon, not to mention the moral implications. A nuclear weapon is the most destructive weapon when considering the instantaneous massive desolation.
Terrorists and small nations don’t have the materials and technology needed to blow a hole the size of the moon in the earth, so they use less expensive chemical and biological weapons. These weapons are easier to deliver and have led to the death of thousands of people. The weapons are usually released into the air and then have to be inhaled to have an affect on a person. The affect that the person usually suffers is death. These weapons were first introduced by Germany in World War I as poison gas. They were banned at the Geneva Convention, for this weapon was indiscriminating and torturous. Chemical weapons were again used in the Iraq-Iran War and continued to be used by terrorists today. Saddam Hussein was believed to have chemical and biological weapons that he had produced from the samples that were given to him during the Iraq-Iran War. Saddam used chemical weapons in small amounts as one of his brutal tortures. Terrorists also use the chemical weapons in some of their attacks. These weapons might not be destructive to the environment, but it is deadly to the people.
Specifcally targeting a certain population due to racial reasons is called genocide. In 1994 nearly one million of Rwanda's Tutsi minority was murdered by the ruling Hutu tribe. Genocide mxied with religious intolerance.occured in the opening of the 21st century when the Sudan's Muslim north attacked the Christian south.
One weapon of mass destruction that is not talked about much in this category is abortion. People look over abortion as a weapon, but it kills the largest sum of people a year. It is the number one killer in the United States of America. One death of a baby occurs every twenty-four seconds. The process is worst then any of the tortures that Saddam Hussein could possibly think of. There are two types of abortion: in utero and partial-birth abortion. Abortion done in the mother's uterous can be done two ways. The most violent way is when the small baby is cut up and removed by a vacuum hose with sharp edges to tear the rest of the fetus apart. The other way for the mother to kill her baby is by taking a pill or injection that will cut off the nutrients to the fetus causing death and the fetus will then be expelled from the mother. Partial-birth abortion occurs outside the the mother's body. The first step to the procedure is to pull the baby out up to its head. Then cut the back of the head and vacuum the brains of the baby out. (Figure 1) Since this procedure was been made legal in 1973 it has added to the 43,000,000 babies that have been murdered. That number continues to rise to about 1.3 million a year. Some people think that this is ok, because the baby is not yet alive. According to research, the baby’s heart starts to beat around 22 days. Not to mention what the Bible says in Jeremiah 1:5, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.” This weapon of mass destruction surpasses all of the others that have been mentioned in this paper and clearly is the worst destructive weapon in both its scope and magnitude. Abortion continues to kill millions while the world's attention is focused on thousands that may be killed.
All of these weapons are harmful and have the ability to kill large amounts of people. Nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons kill people in seconds, but the death rate is not constant. While abortion kills people at a steady rate and the rate is growing every year. Democrats in Congress are trying to limit weapons of mass destruction and yet they seem to ignore the biggest weapon of mass destruction yet. Even as the US Congress banned partial-birth abortion, it solidified the constitutional right of the mother to murder her baby in utero. Committing abortion should be looked at as killing in the first degree for the person who does it. They carry out a careful plan to take a life. The Pro-Life movement is against this weapon of mass destruction.
